What is the 2024 Giving Challenge?
The Giving Challenge is an exciting 24-hour giving event from April 9-10, noon to noon. All donations during the Giving Challenge are unrestricted gifts to local nonprofit organizations of your choice. The Community Foundation of Sarasota County works with The Patterson Foundation to match all qualifying donations, up to $100 per gift. Qualifying donations must be made through the Giving Challenge website during the designated 24-hour period.
Why does Pine View Band need donations?
Your donations fund critical band expenses not otherwise covered by the school or district. The band program depends solely on donations to finance the following:
• Hiring professional music coaches to work with students ($4000/month)
• Purchasing sheet music ($6000/year)
• Providing need-based financial assistance to students for uniforms or trips ($100-$500 per student/per event)
• Reducing student fees for charter bus transportation to band events
• Purchasing new instruments ($1000-$8000 per instrument)
When and where do I donate?
Visit https://www.givingchallenge.org/organizations/pine-view-band-inc to make a secure donation, anytime from noon to noon, on April 9-10. Donations must be made directly on the givingchallenge.org website, using a debit or credit card, to be eligible for a match.
How does the donation match work and how can I maximize it?
The Patterson Foundation will provide a 1:1 match for all unique donations, up to $100 per donor, per organization.
A unique donor is one individual, or entity, with a separate name and email address. Donors can give any amount they wish (over $25), to as many organizations as they wish.
Example scenarios are below:
-If one member of your family makes a single donation of $500 to Pine View Band, the Patterson Foundation will provide a match of $100, resulting in a total donation of $600. However, if five separate members of your family each donate $100 to Pine View Band, the Patterson Foundation will match each donation with $100, leading to a total contribution of $1000 to Pine View Band.
-If you make a single donation of $150 to Pine View Band, the Patterson Foundation will match $100, resulting in a total donation of $250.
-If you make a single donation of $50 to Pine View Band, the Patterson Foundation will match $50, resulting in a total donation of $100.
-If you make a donation of $100 to Pine View Band and a donation of $100 to Pine View Association, the Patterson Foundation will match each donation with $100, resulting in a total donation of $200 to Pine View Band and $200 to Pine View Association.
Can I use the same credit card for multiple donations?
Yes, within reason. Donations are reviewed by staff and algorithms. Putting too many individual donations on a single credit card may cause them to be flagged and disqualify them from being matched.
Do I need to create an account to donate?
You do not need to create an account to make a donation. The benefits of creating an account include having your tax receipts collected in one location, being able to track your donations, follow the charities you support, and engage in future volunteering and donations. Your tax receipt is emailed immediately upon processing your donation. To claim a donation as a deduction on U.S. taxes, you should retain the donation receipt as an official record.
